GMU 11 Magnetometer

GMU 11 is an affordable microprocessor-based magnetometer. It can be used to accurately detect the alignment of the Earth's magnetic field and provide this data to compatible ADAHRS processors for use in aircraft magnetic heading referencing. In essence, the magnetometer acts like an electronic compass, showing the ADAHRS in which direction the aircraft is facing in relation to magnetic north.
Unlike conventional fluxgate systems, which detect only the horizontal component of the Earth's magnetic field, the GMU 11 magnetometer provides full vector measurements on three axes for the most accurate digital indication of magnetic field strength and direction.

The ADAHRS components used in our G3X, G3X Touch and G5 electronic displays can use comparative GPS, magnetometer and air data information to achieve new levels of digital flight integrity, reliability and accuracy.

What's more, because it's a completely solid-state design, GMU 11 offers low power consumption and easy installation and calibration. On most aircraft, the GMU 11 is mounted in a separate location from the ADAHRS and other electronic components - usually externally in the wing, tail or vertical stabilizer - to minimize external magnetic interference.
