When installed with your G3X Touch series avionics, the GDL 52R receiver makes it easy to exploit features that facilitate situational awareness while making your flying time more enjoyable. You get full SiriusXM coverage - accessible from the ground or from the air - combined with the subscription-free weather and traffic features of an ADS-B "In" data link. Together, these two data link technologies create a world of safety-enhancing information - as well as access to over 150 channels of digital-quality music, news, sports and other entertainment programming - direct to your cockpit.

Works with a variety of devices
GDL 52R provides multiple display outputs and display options. It not only works with your G3X Touch avionics, but can also communicate simultaneously with the Garmin Pilot ™ app running on your iPad®-compatible tablet or other mobile device³. Similarly, if you're traveling with an aera® 660, aera 796 or aera 795 series aviation handheld device, you can also access the receiver's data links (via a wired or wireless connection) with these products. The GDL 52R can support up to 2 Connext wireless connections for your devices, while simultaneously providing wired connections for 2 other devices. Best of all, thanks to the connectivity that links your mobile device application and the GDL 52R, a single subscription allows you to stream SiriusXM services to multiple portable or mobile devices. So you get more access - on more devices - without spending more money.

The ultimate weather observer
Continuous updates from SiriusXM satellites - accessible by ground and air - help you make better flight decisions, faster. The powerful satellites of the SiriusXM network provide seamless coverage across the continental U.S. and its coastal regions, as well as southern Canada. (See coverage map) Choose from available SiriusXM Aviation weather packages that provide METAR data and NEXRAD moving images, as well as up-to-date reports on precipitation, lightning, winds aloft, overhead echoes, turbulence, frost levels, TFRs and more.

Alternatively, the GDL 52R receiver also provides subscription-free access to weather information from the ADS-B Flight Information Service (FIS-B). Thanks to this, your compatible portable or laptop displays can show animated weather information as well as METARs, TAFs, winds and temperatures aloft, PIREPs, NOTAMs and other ADS-B-related features. Best of all, to help you maintain the most up-to-date weather picture, your GDL 52R receiver can update the weather from ADS-B and/or SiriusXM when your display device is on standby or switched off. It updates automatically when you turn the screen back on.

Super sound made easy
With your GDL 52R, you can choose wired or wireless Bluetooth® audio connections to enjoy the high-quality audio entertainment channels provided by SiriusXM1. You can access volume settings and station selection via your compatible G3X Touch display, handheld application or Garmin aviation mobile device. If you prefer, you can also opt to wire the GDL 52R via your compatible audio panel (or use the wireless connectivity of our GMA 245 ™ or GMA 245R) to route your signals through the in-cab headphones.

Spot potential traffic threats
To facilitate situational awareness, the GDL 52R can also receive ADS-B position reports directly from other aircraft in the vicinity. In the USA, two frequencies (978 UAT and 1090 ES) are approved by the FAA for ADS-B transmissions, so the GDL 52 offers access to both frequencies. This gives you the most complete view of all nearby ADS-B "Out" targets. Your compatible monitor4 will alert you to audible and visual traffic targets. Audio voice alerts announce "Traffic, Traffic" so you can look immediately.
