For pilots flying G3X Touch screens in their experimental / amateur or light sport aircraft, the GDL 51R remote receiver brings a full range of SiriusXM satellite services into the cockpit. It gives you access to continuous, detailed aviation weather content at any altitude, as well as over 150 channels of digital-quality music, news, sports and other entertainment programs. When installed with your G3X Touch avionics, the GDL 51R makes it easy to tap into the weather functions and audio channels of your choice. Best of all, you can use our Connext wireless connectivity to stream SiriusXM services to multiple Garmin Aviation handsets (including the aera® 660, aera 796 or area 795 models), as well as iPad® tablets and mobile devices with the Garmin Pilot ™ app. So you get more access - on more devices - without spending more money.

Works with a variety of devices
GDL 51R, which offers multiple display outputs and display options, not only works with your G3X Touch avionics, but can also communicate simultaneously with the Garmin Pilot app running on your iPad tablet or compatible mobile devices². Similarly, if you're traveling with an Aera 660 or 796/795 series portable aircraft, you can also access the receiver's data links (via a wired or wireless connection) with these products. What's more, to help you maintain the most up-to-date weather picture, the GDL 51R can display SiriusXM weather when the display device is on standby or switched off. It updates automatically when you switch the display back on.

Satellite weather
Continuous updates from SiriusXM satellites - accessible by land and air - can help you make better, faster flight decisions. The powerful satellites of the SiriusXM network provide seamless coverage across the continental U.S. and its coastal regions, as well as southern Canada. (See coverage map.) Choose from available SiriusXM Aviation weather packages, which provide METAR data and NEXRAD animated images, as well as up-to-date reports on precipitation, lightning, winds aloft, overhead echoes, turbulence, frost levels, TFRs and more.

Sound optimization

With your GDL 51R remote receiver, you can choose wired or wireless Bluetooth® audio connections to enjoy the high-quality audio entertainment channels provided by SiriusXM¹. You can access volume settings and station selection via your compatible G3X Touch display, handheld application or Garmin aviation mobile device. If you prefer, you can also opt to wire the GDL 51R via your compatible audio panel (or use the wireless connectivity of our GMA ™ 245 or GMA 245R models) to route your headphones into the cabin.
