This book deals with navigation for microlights or small tourist aircraft. Dedicated to the training or improvement of pilots, it is intended above all to be pedagogical. Its aim is to enable pilots or future pilots to navigate in the best possible conditions of precision and safety.
It explains the various classic navigation methods, as well as more modern GPS-based methods. The main types of charts, their geodesies and properties are presented. Flight preparation is covered, with basic tools and some of the most common mapping software. Several of the latter are studied in part, with simple examples and practical information. Their advantages and disadvantages are highlighted. Actual navigation with a GPS connected to an on-board computer system is demonstrated. For those wishing to equip themselves with modern computerized means, the various descriptions given should give a fairly precise idea of the choice to be made.
But sailing also means respecting a certain number of regulations and prudent behavior. Part of the book is devoted to this. You'll find the basic rules of flying, information on the different types of platforms and indications on how to behave in a lawful and prudent manner.
Flying is a real pleasure, and it would be a pity to miss out on it for want of sufficient knowledge. This book aims to provide you with the essential knowledge and resources you need.
