Before every VFR navigation, there is that almost ritual moment : the chart unfolded on a table, the route drawn, the landmarks checked, the areas anticipated and that very particular feeling of preparing a flight before even reaching the flying club. For years, pilots naturally associated these paper charts with the name IGN ICAO. In 2026, this habit is evolving : paper ICAO charts at 1/500 000 are no longer produced and marketed under the IGN name, but now come under the responsibility of the SIA, the Aeronautical Information Service.

There are gifts we give to bring joy. And then there are those that tell a story. For a loved one passionate about aviation, a private pilot or a professional of the skies, a watch is never just a watch. It is a flight companion, a landmark on the wrist, a concentration of technology designed to accompany every departure, every briefing and every weather check before heading to the runway.

Spring marks the return of cross country flights, spontaneous local flights, aviation weekends and projects that may have been put on hold during the winter. It is also the ideal time to take a fresh look at your cockpit, improve readability, modernise your installation, add a backup instrument, or complete an existing configuration.

In a pilot’s life, some pieces of equipment go far beyond their primary function. They are not just there to display information or complete an outfit; they eventually become part of the routine, the briefing, the drive to the airfield, the flight itself, and everything that surrounds it. When thoughtfully designed, an aviation watch is not just another accessory : it becomes a reference point, a tool, sometimes even a natural extension of a pilot’s preparation and situational awareness.

ULM flying is entering a new chapter in its history. With the decree of 17 February 2025, often referred to as “OPS-ULM,” the practice is not just changing on paper: its whole philosophy is evolving. The aim is not to undermine light aviation, but to frame it more effectively, especially when a passenger is carried or when the activity is conducted for remuneration. And contrary to what is sometimes written, this reform is not being rolled out all at once : its implementation is gradual.
